Earlier in the day, a similar resolution was passed by Punjab Congress unanimously requesting Gandhi not to step down from party’s top post.
Earlier similar resolutions were passed by many states Congress Committees urging Gandhi to continue as the party President. In another development, DPCC Chief Sheila Dixit along with State Party Workers held a demonstration outside Gandhi’s Residence in the national capital on Wednesday. She later met Rahul Gandhi and requested to continue leading the party.
Gandhi had offered to step down from his post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on Saturday. Reportedly despite the CWC rejected his resignation, now an MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi is said to be unfazed.
Rahul Gandhi has lost his regular Loksabha constituency of Amethi to BJP’s Smriti Irani. The Congress faced a crushing defeat in national polls and won 52 seats, which is only 8 more than it got in 2014 national polls.
